Does anyone know how openings like these in malls are normally handled? The Holyoke mall doesn’t usually open until 10:00 on Saturdays… will they be letting people in early to line up? [IFO -- Typically malls open early, sometimes for so-called "mall walkers" who exercise in the malls, and sometimes just for early arrivals. Either way, mall management usually allows any Apple store waiting line to relocate to the front of the store about an hour or so before the opening. Mall security is usually prepped by Apple, so they're ready for the line and understand everyone's desire to get in front of the store. But policies vary from mall to mall.]

This is from the Holyoke Mall’s website.

Mall Walking
Walking has quickly become America’s most popular form of exercise because it is safe, simple and inexpensive. Almost anyone can walk, regardless of age, lifestyle or physical condition. A regular program of brisk walking is beneficial in preventing or managing health problems.

Join your friends and neighbors at Holyoke Mall for healthful walking at your own pace in climate controlled comfort.

Exercise by walking a measured course before stores open (6am – 10:00am Monday through Saturday; 7 am – 11 am Sunday) and at your convenience. You can increase your fitness in the company of your friends.

Holyoke Mall and Baystate Health Systems have joined forces to create a Mall walkers Club. Watch the Calendar of Events for activities.

Hope to see everyone in line, bright and early!!!

I’m not sure I understand why anyone would need to line up before hand – true you can get a free T-Shirt if’fn you’re one of the first 1,000 BUT do some folks deperately need….I’m not sure how to phrase this….need to go buy apple stuff? Why not just make that big apple purchase online 2 weeks beforehand, then go to the store at your leisure? Do some folks need to be the FIRST! to paw the stuff? Is there shame in NOT being in there, you know, immediately? It’s not like missing christmas or fireworks, it’s just a store. And a fairly permanent one at that…

I think the idea behind being among the first there, aside from the t-shirt, isn’t necessarily to be there to buy things RIGHT away, but more so for the give aways. I know they have typically given away a couple new iPods, some goodie bags, and even some top-range 15-inch MacBook Pros in the past, so I know being there to possibly win a shiny new piece of Apple hardware is incentive to be there. Otherwise, you’re right, its there for good and you can go at your leisure.
