Analysts for the investment firm UBS report that during a recent meeting with Apple Inc. officials, the execs expressed confidence with the June release date previously promised for the iPhone, and in volume sufficient to meet customer demand. Writing to UBS customers about the meeting, analyst Ben Reitzes also dropped a tantalizing tidbit. “We believe Apple will provide customers with an innovative method of in-store activation and in-store displays for the iPhone, along with customer-friendly billing that could tie customers further into the Apple online store,” he wrote. His remark, combined with the tech-smart demographic of Apple customers and the potentially huge number of iPhone buyers, suggests some type of on-line, self-registration system at the stores, along with on-line billing and payment systems.
