Portland Store Overhaul

May 5, 2007

A week’s worth of construction has completely rearranged the Pioneer Square store in downtown Portland (Ore.). Unlike renovations at other stores that made substantial changes, this one focused on the floorplan: the Genius Bar moved to the back and the cashwrap disappeared in favor of the EasyPay handheld computers. Creative and iPod bars go on the rear sides of the store. When finished, the make-over should give the store a like-new store floorplan, and hopefully help it cope with being a very busy store.

Funny. I was there on Sunday, May 7th and none of the mentioned changes had been made. Genius bar on the right side of the middle wall. Easypay was everywhere, but cashwrap counter at the very back of the store was manned as well. True, its pretty much always a very busy store, but I didn’t see any of the mentioned changes.
