Regent Street Re-Visited

April 3, 2007

I’ve returned to the Regent Street (London, UK) store for the first time since I attended the grand opening in Nov. 2004, and have documented more fully the expansion that was performed last year and revealed in Dec. 2006. The theater was moved back about 60 feet, creating a large display space for laptops and desktops, and also allowed for installation of an elevator. The expansion also opened up a hallway to relocated public restrooms and the existing two-room Studio for group instruction and demonstrations.

Alas the expansion has also brough a noticable drop in the quality and enthuasiam of the staff. A surly British attitude to service is creeping in unfortunately.

Actually, there also was a lift at the store for customers, so it wasn’t added for equal access regulations, just for eye candy. Also the hallway was always there, leading to the two studio classrooms, which were also there from the beginning. The restrooms were moved though!! [IFO-Story corrected.]

We’ll remember that next time you visit Steve. Cheers! Oh by the way Gary, the Studios were taken from retail and given to Corp for more space. Glad you came and visited. You just missed Jobs visit by a few days…

There was only a single Studio at first. See the cut-away rendering called “Regent Street store 3D” in the left hand sidebar on this site.

I go and hang out in the store every fortnight, it’s such a wonderful store to be in, and it’s very very busy at all times. The staff are very helpful and are always thankful for the extra help I tend to give them on Mac OSX and Apple’s great audio apps! The instore wifi connection is busy too.. lots of users, but the connection is fine. The theatre is massive and a great thing to see, and hear, as it has a decent audio system, and screen.

The regent Street store.. rocks!
