Somerset To Go Stainless..And Steel

March 6, 2007

The Somerset (Mich.) store closed last Sunday for a week so it can be reduced to a mini-store while renovations are made. According to signs, the work will take 10 weeks, after which the store will close for a week, and then re-open with stainless steel walls, stone floors and wood display tables. The Somerset location opened in October 2002 as store #42.

They need to actually make the store larger… it’s always so crowded when I’m in there anymore. I was at the Twelve Oaks store recently, and although it was just the first time there it was not nearly as crowded. Somerset draws a lot of people.

Maybe a store in downtown Detrtoit would help relieve the overflow… (I know I’m dreaming… let it go…)

I was talking to one of the employees there, I guess they wanted to close it in the Fall/Holiday season but the store management just refused due to the volume they do. That store is ALWAYS crowded. They do a ton of business there.

The renovations will add 25% more floor space pushing toward the back and the whole back wall will be a genius bar. IMO this isn’t enough floor space or genius bar space but there’s another store coming in 08 near Lakeside mall (Macomb). This location will be packed too.

To make it a great store they need to make twice the size it is now possibly add a second floor like the San Francisco store.
