The construction barricade has been removed from the front of the future Waterside Shops (Fla.) store, revealing a brand-new architectural design for the storefront: a stainless steel wall with a back-lit Apple logo. Previously, storefronts have been primarily glass with a stainless steel frame, and Apple logo above. However, photos of the Waterside store show a large stainless steel wall with eye-level Apple logo.

If I recall correctly, the large aluminium wall is used in the Annapolis Mall Apple Store. [IFO - Absolutely correct! However, it's the side wall of a corner store..and huge! It's about 15' high by 30' wide. But I think this is the first stainless steel for the storefront.]
So between this store and the several recent ones that have opened with no storefront windows, do we think that this is another cost cutting method? Remember how every store used to have calendar of events to hand out, and now only flagship stores have them on papers while every other store needs to rely of the store’s website? I know that those black panels while looking good, didn’t take wear very much. The Woodfield IL store has a large black panel area facing the center court which has taken abuse near the bottom, prompting what appears to be at least one new coat of paint. Those handprints do stink though.

Both of the internal stores in Manchester here in the UK (Arndale Centre and Trafford Centre) have this facade on the front of the store.
