South Africa Retail Push?

A job listing being advertised in South Africa seems to indicate that Apple has plans for retail stores in the country. The position for a Retail Marketing Manager will be responsible for “large project implementation, marketing and recruitment within the Apple Retail Department.” The listing says specific responsibilities include, “the ability to create and implement marketing quarterly strategies, plan and implement Apple’s retail roll out as well maintaining certain aspects and operations of the retail touch points.” More specifically, the key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Planning, execution and implementation of Apple’s retail strategy.
  • Physically implementing the retail roll out of new stores, countrywide.
  • Working alongside Interior Design company as well as other suppliers in order to successfully create a perfect Apple Store.
  • Managing recruitment process within Retail Department.

    Apple is looking for a person with a minimum of two years retail marketing or consumer products experience, with an undergraduate degree. The position would be based in Sandton, a northern suburb of Johannesburg.

    If true, this is great news, both for South African Mac fans and for Apple’s ability to reach into new markets. Wonderful!

    This would be great – tho we’re still waiting – it’s really about time that Apple returned to SA as it’s own distributor & genuine Apple retail outlets would hopefully raise the standard – both Mac users and retailers have been held to ransom by the Core group’s distribution monopoly & rediculous mark-ups since Apple’s departure almost two decades ago. An official Apple online store would also help…
