Store Video Surfaces

December 21, 2006

You may know that Apple takes video of its store grand openings, most recently using HD-capable camcorders. The videos are distributed internally, but now the Trafford Centre (UK) store opening video has appeared on the MacTV Web site [Not surprisingly, the video was deleted about Dec. 25th at Apple's demand.]. The movie includes behind-the-scenes views of the store being stocked by the store employees, including some interesting time-lapse sequences. It also includes some short, on-camera comments by the store manager and assistant manager, the long grand opening waiting line, and the opening itself. The movie appears to have been edited in Final Cut Pro, and frequently had three or four video windows moving on-screen. The video doesn’t reveal any secrets, but it does offer insights into some of the hard work–and good spirit–of the store employees to prepare a store for opening.

As someone who has worked an Apple opening, that video is really dead on. They just didn’t show the part were Ron J. was making me measure the distance between the ipod docks and placement within 1/16 on an inch :)

Does anyone know what happened to the MacTV website the past 6+ months? They launched their then new site, and were having some problems uploading the old videos to the new site, then the guy’s hard drive crashed and so he lost a bunch of the site’s templates, but then the site went down. Just like that. Nothing saying “Coming soon,” it was just down. You’d get an error in going to the site. And I visited it like once a month, and nothing. Then all of a sudden, this video comes out and now there’s version 3? of the site and it’s all happy again. Anyone know what happened?

P.S. It is a cool video, very well made.

The video has since been taken down due to Apple Legal so did anyone by chance download the video so that I and others who may have missed it see it?

So does anyone know the name of the movie file? Maybe we can find it on Bit Torrent.
