Apple is now promoting “Express Shopping” at their retail stores, saying on the Web site to, “Select your gift, swipe your card, and you’re ready to go.” Like last year, the stores now have iPod or Mac Express check-out tables to keep the waiting lines short Apple says that making a store purchase is, “Easy as 1-2-3.” The tables are staffed with personnel who use a portable computer to wirelessly process credit card-only transactions and e-mail a receipt to the customer.

I’ve used this several times in the past few months, for buying software and an iPod too. The checkout is so smart that the second time it recognized my credit card and I did not have to give them my email address again. It’s very nice having an electronic version of my store receipt too.
