The AppleInsider Web site reports that Apple has installed special software applications on retail store computers to help manage the crush of customers expected during the holiday shopping season. The apps include a test drive and another to visually signal any nearby Mac Specialist. AppleInsider also says the company will debut “Talk Mac,” a free service to allow non-Mac customers to schedule an appointment with a Mac Specialist to discuss their computer needs, and how a Mac might fill their needs.

The new botton on the desktop is called “Rhonda” even though it’s different Apple Employees from the iLife ‘06 campaign brochure. Buy a Mac, get a Store. Test Drive software? Can I get a Aghhhh! Not. That’s what employees give customers a two-minute test drive. Stay awake at the meeting people, I know it can be boring. But get it straight.
As far as I can tell these new buttons aren’t a response to the holiday rush at all. I think we’ll be seeing them as a permanent addition to the stores.
