Getting Ready for Holidays

November 10, 2006

Expect Apple’s retail holiday shopping season to gear up soon, with the goal of matching the stratospheric revenues of last year. The season traditionally starts with the day after Thanksgiving and runs through New Years. Based on previous years, Apple will soon announce special holiday store hours to create more shopping time, especially in the two weeks before Christmas. Window displays could also change within the next two weeks to highlight the season and Apple’s products. On November 15th Apple will announce special pricing on select products to jump-start the buying season. Then Apple will no doubt produce a holiday buying guide for the retail stores, highlighting various iPod and Macintosh products. Special holiday T-shirts should roll out shortly with clever slogans. And lastly, to speed up purchases, the retail stores may reprise the special check-out tables where employees will use EZ Pay portable computers to process credit card transactions. Last year’s holiday quarter was very successful, with $1.072 billion in revenues and $90 million in profit, a record for the chain.
