The San Luis Obispo (Calif.) Architectural Review Commission has scheduled Nov. 20th for a review of a façade remodel at 899 Higuera Street, but public documents indicate that Apple is no longer the involved tenant. The new design review lists “Copeland Properties” as the applicant and describes the renovation work as, “façade remodel to a downtown building (formerly Structures) including new storefronts and removal of Morro Street windows.” A closer look shows the proposal includes dividing the 4,500 square-foot location into two spaces, bricking-in the side-street windows, and adding a second door to one of the spaces. Apple began the process of obtaining architectural approvals for the address back in May 2006, asking to remove a exterior pillar and install stainless steel over the red brick storefront. Apple is still committed to the city: they continue to post job openings for the “Higuera” location, and have told finalists that a store will open in San Luis Obispo in late 2007.
