As Apple continues to contemplate its own retail plans for China, the authorized reseller Kewei Digital Store has forged ahead with the festive grand opening of a two-story store in east-central Beijing today. According to the Beijing Macintosh Users Group (BeiMac), it’s the largest store in the city of 15 million residents. After performances by a drummer and lion, a large red curtain was pulled to reveal the store, and the large crowd walked across a bridgeway and into the store. The ground floor of the smallish space has displays of Macintosh and iPod products, while the second level has a support center and classroom. The store is located within the unique-designed Jian Wai SoHo complex that combines retail, high-rise living units and offices into a liveable space.
