Rumors of an official Apple store in Australia have been increasing lately, especially with the jobs postings for a Retail Sales Consultant, one of two that will be posted inside the downtown Sydney branch of the Myer Department Store. The position will work 29.5 hours, the job listing says, and work Thursday through Sunday. Perhaps they’re creating a future staff for rumored locations to open in Melbourne (Collins Street), Brisbane and Sydney during 2007. The spaces that Apple is reportedly scouting range from 2,150 square-feet to over 8,000 s.f., both street-level and in a mall.

The rumour here is that the Apple Store in Sydney will be in World Square and near Federation Square in Melbourne.
I don’t see the point of placing an Apple store near Fed Square cos theres an Apple Center just directly across flinders street from it. But i do understand that there should be one on Collins Street.
Where do you get you information from? Your article should no evidence of an Apple store, or any evidence of knowledge of the local market. The Australian market is already saturated with Apple resellers and with such a small market, I doubt that Apple would be terribly welcome by customers in the retail space.
World Square? Please, World Square is so outside the CBD shopping precinct with little to no foot traffic, limited parking and thus obviously a ridiculous place for Apple to setup shop in Australia.
Apple are always hiring Retail Sales Consultants (Black Shirts) for Myers, DJs and now the Dick Smith Powerhouse stores. Nothing new.
I will place my bet on 294 Collins Street being the Melbourne location… I have been keeping my eye on it over the last few weeks, it has gone from just being “closed” with “Exciting Flagship Store Opening Feb ‘07″ across the front, to having that removed (for some reason), black plastic being stuck over the two large front windows, to it very quickly being gutted… All in all, seems the Apple modus operandi. Having looked at all of the empty shops on Collins Street it seems the most Apple-ish… The only things going against it is the fact is seems a little small, and location wise it may not be A+ grade… If only one of the Mont Blanc / Bang & Olufsen / Chanel area shops were available :)
Ahh… I am wrong, wrong, wrong. It is just the watch shop next door moving into a larger location… Well, maybe 357 Collins Street then… :)
A retailer talked on 14 Nov - thay will no longer be able to use the term ‘apple centre’ from around mid 2007. They will apparently become apple prefered resellers instead! According to the retailer Apple concept stores like those in USA will be up and running in that time frame - although apparently owned and controlled by Apple USA direct and not by Apple Australia? Retailer did not feel it was a threat to business as concept store is likely to generate significant new demand and interest. But then, was he just spinning a yarn?
wondering.. can u get addresses to apple stores in brisbane???
