Planned Georgia Location

August 7, 2006

Irony is apparently part of Apple’s planned store at the Mall in Georgia in Buford (Geo.), about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta along Interstate 85. Public records indicate the store will open in Spring 2007, in the village area space formerly occupied by clothing retailer Harold’s, which closed in June 2001 because of poor performance. Back then CEO Clark Hinkley told a business newspaper that the space faced the outside of the mall and that, “We just didn’t seem to be getting the traffic that we anticipated.” Apple has several stores in Main Street and village-type malls, where all the store entrances face outside. In this case, however, the main mall is enclosed, with just a few retailers occupying four attached buildings with exterior storefronts. [Google satellite]
