Ripples Appear in Glass Panels

July 10, 2006

A visitor to The Grove (LA) store has noticed strange ripples in two of the huge support panels of the glass staircase, indicating a delamination of the middle, plastic layer of the specially-constructed sheets of glass. Both sets of ripples are visible near the edge of the panels, which are on the right side of the stairs. The ripples don’t seem to indicate a structural problem for the stairway, since loading for the stairs isn’t totally dependent upon the lamination. The panels were assembled by Depp Glass about four years ago, and are estimated to have cost tens of thousands of dollars each. Check photos of the panels.
