In-Store Order Security

June 2, 2006

A blogger has posted screenshots and a warning to anyone ordering merchandise on-line from an Apple retail store–your credit card information is not secure. The person claims he/she noticed, “staff at apple (sic) were directing their customers to place orders online on the computers that customers were playing with,” and that he/she then discovered credit card information still visible after the customer left. From the screenshots from an unknown store, it appears the customer was ordering a white MacBook with AppleCare with an American Express card. Update: At most stores the employees personally assist customers with on-line purchases, and use the “Reset Safari…” command to clear out credit card and other info.
