The Consumerist Web site questions the legitimacy of the on-line business Store Soho, which appears to be a seller of Apple products, and plays upon a connection with Apple’s SoHo (NYC) retail store. The Store Soho (yes, the “h” isn’t capitalized) Web site includes exterior and interior photos of Apple’s very-legitimate SoHo store, and the product photos are direct from Apple’s own on-line store. Computer and Cinema Display prices are at least $500 below Apple’s list price, and the address comes back to a mail drop in San Pedro (S. Calif.). According to those who have tried to order, the only method of payment is a wire transfer.
Update: The Web site has disappeared, replaced with a Russian Web page noting that the account is suspended. Apparently Apple’s legal team was able to contact Krichevskey Andrey Borisovich at the ISP Center Group, and have the site taken down. I’ve posted a copy of the original Web page so you can see the use of Apple’s photos.
