The Portland Oregonian newspaper says that Apple’s architect for the proposed retail store on N.W. 23rd St. in that city will return to the Historic Landmarks Commission soon, “with a revised plan that scraps the stainless steel in favor of stone but keeps a modernistic flat exterior skin.” Apple presented the stainless steel design last August and the Commission was critical of its appearance in the historic downtown district. The newspaper also quotes city planner Kristen Minor saying that she saw a preliminary version of the revised design: “There are definitely some aspects the landmarks commission may be troubled by, but you have made progress in other areas.”
