An Ascerbic View of Boston Store Hearing

You’ll recall that Boston’s Back Bay Architectural Committee was critical of the architecture of the proposed Boston Apple store during a recent presentation. Now the “Boston’s Weekly Dig” Web site takes a shot at the committee, calling them a “cabal of frigid elitists,” and calling their objections pretty unreasonable. Meanwhile, the “Boston Courant” newspaper has published a copy of Apple’s proposed design, showing a 3-story, all-glass storefront with a floating Apple logo on the third floor. Interestingly, the design looks almost identical to the design of the now-cancelled Flatiron 2-story store in New York City, where the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission was critical of the design and Apple decided not to build.
