Speculation has been rampant among Denver Mac enthusiasts about whether Apple would really build two new stores within 20 miles of each other in the city’s suburbs. Now the Daily Camera newspaper confirms that Apple will open stores at both Flatiron Crossing in Westminster northwest of Denver, and at the under-construction 29th Street mall in Boulder further northwest on Hwy. 36. “There was never a question in our mind or in Apple’s mind that they would come here,” said The Macerich Company CEO Art Coppola to the newspaper. Interestingly, he said the 29th Street store will be in a 4,900 square-foot space, significantly larger than the ~3,000 s.f. spaces Apple normally leases, and almost 35% larger than the 3,231 s.f. of the future Flatiron Crossing store. The stores were identified as future sites as early as Sept. 2004, but only now have lease signings been confirmed.
