New Region to See Apple Store

Apple has finally broken its streak of opening new stores only in existing store regions, with plans to install a store at the MacArthur Center in downtown Norfolk (Virg.). The Taubman Properties mall is located just a short walk from the Elizabeth River and several major hotels. Up to now, the city has been the largest metro region without an Apple store. However, the decision doesn’t entirely reverse Apple’s trend of opening virtually all new stores in existing regions. Apple will also open a new store in the Stamford Town Center in the town of Stamford (Conn.), just across the New York state line. It’s one of the country’s wealthiest communities, giving rise to the region’s “Gold Coast” nickname. The Norfolk store will be the sixth in the state, while the Stamford store will be the third in that state, but the 17th in the metro NYC area.
