New Software In Small Packaging

January 13, 2006

Buyers of the new iLife ‘06, iWork ‘06 and .Mac 4.0 software report that the boxes are smaller than the previous standard-sized packaging–a major break in packaging tradition for software developers. Some are describing the boxes as similar to the iPod nano boxes. More precisely, they’re 5-1/4” x 5-1/2”, just barely larger than the enclosed DVD and tiny manuals. The iLife ‘06 product includes a trial version of iWork ‘06. And in typical Apple fashion, the box contents are accessible via a pull-out cardboard tray within the box. Apple’s retail stores have open shelving, and so will easily accomodate the new products.
