Apple has dipped down the list of metro areas, and has selected Reno (Nev.) for a future retail store, at the under-construction Sierra Summit lifestyle center being developed by Bayer Properties Inc. The town is in the high-Sierra Mountains with a population of 180,000, but the developer claims 570,000 residents within the shopping region, and 5 million tourists a year for gambling and snow skiing. The first phase of an eventual 650,000 square-feet will open in March 2006, which could include the Apple store.
