The discovery of Apple’s application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a Service Mark on the word “Vingle” includes a retail angle: the description of the “goods services” described by “Vingle” includes, “Retail store services in the field of entertainment, namely, musical, audio and audiovisual works and related merchandise, provided via the internet and other computer and electronic communication networks; data storage and retrieval services; computerized data storage services; electronic storage and retrieval of documents, data, images, audio, video and audiovisual works; information, advisory and consultancy services relating to all the aforesaid.” Maybe they’re simply selling Vingle subscriptions within the stores, like they do now for .Mac. On the other hand, at least one news site seems to think Apple will open Vingle retail stores(?).
