Apple’s presentation before the Portland (Ore.) Historic Landmarks Commission for a new retail store has been re-scheduled to Oct. 10th. The appearance is part of the city’s land use review, which includes consideration of the design by the local neighborhood association and the Commission before permits are granted by the city. In this case, the existing building is not considered historic, but the proposed design must be compatible with the neighborhood (pdf). In this case, the Northwest District Association is very concerned about the limited parking for new retail stores. The area around 23rd and W. Burnside St. is a popular shopping district for residents from the entire city.
