The wedding dress store has abandoned the building at 437 N.W. 23rd Ave. in Portland (Ore.), and a local architect is scheduled to appear before the city’s Historic Landmarks Commission today for what’s known as a “design advice” presentation of Apple’s plans to demolish the structure and build a 2-story retail store. According to documents (pdf) filed with the city, the lot is 50′x100′ and includes a building constructed in 1982. The potential store would be “double height, one-floor corner retail building shell approximately 4,750 square feet,” with the entrance on N.W. 23rd Avenue. “A clear glass storefront glazing system is proposed along the full frontage of the NW 23rd Avenue, and a 1/3 frontage along NW Glisan Street,” the submitted documents state. “Exterior materials include concrete, a panelized metal panel and rain screen veneer, light boxes and an internally illuminated 4.5’ x 4.5’ sign set into the exterior building skin.” And yes, it does sound like the Flatiron (NYC) store process.
