Gateway announced an additional 1,500 jobs cuts, along with a loss of $166 million for the latest fiscal quarter, on revenues of $868 million. The company doesn’t break out sales figures for its retail segment, but said it expects the closing of its 190 remaining stores would impact future revenue by about $300 million per quarter, but also reduce company expenses by about $60 million per quarter. At one time Gateway had almost retail 300 stores, but since early 2002 has been trimming them back. The company took $51 million in special charges during 2003 to close 82 stores and eliminate 900 retail jobs. They announced the complete close-down of the retail operation April 1st.
