That nice space vacated by Eddie Bauer at the Providence Place (RI) mall will be occupied by an Ann Taylor store–not Apple. Ouch!

What does the the installation of an Xserve at the Third Street Promenade (S. Calif.) store mean? It means the person who ordered it never picked it up, and the HQ team told the store to roll it out front and use it in the theater area, where it the store’s AV needs when giving presentations. Other theaters use Powermacs for presentations.

Perhaps it’s just the Webmaster, but someone at Apple has a sense of humor: the Web page notes that all but six stores will be closed for Easter, "so the Easter Bunny better do all his shopping before Sunday. (Note to Bunny: the new iPod mini comes in an nice array of Spring-like colors.)"

The mall directory entry (right) may be misspelled, but the St. Johns Town Center (Fla.) retail store in Jacksonville opened with a big waiting line (~400) this morning. Thanks to Chris for photos of the store and the waiting line.

Sr. V-P Retail Ron Johnson mentioned airports as a possible venue for mini-stores, and you asked where they might be located. Now I’ve produced a list of the U.S. airports and information on their likelihood of hosting a future Apple retail store.

Note to anyone attending the St. Johns Town Center (Fla.) retail store grand opening this Friday at 10 a.m.–the mall itself opens on Friday at 9:30 a.m., so plan on huge crowds, parking delays and congested streets. An overnight event seems impossible, since mall security reports the front drive will be closed until 6 a.m. on Friday, and they’ll only allow access to the property about 7 a.m. The mall’s developer, Simon Corp., is hosting events all-day that end with a performance by the Commodores at 8 p.m.

Odd situation at the Eastview (NY) mall, where Apple seems to be moving in where an authorized reseller already has a kiosk (iPod accessories) location. The Jessie Group is negotiating for another location in the mall–they have two original locations in Rochester and Mendon.
