A story in the New York Post newspaper says that the historic The Plaza hotel will close in April for renovations that will turn most of into retail space and condominiums. The developer is contacting various retailers to lease in the building when it reopens in 2006, including companies "like Apple," the story said. Interestingly, Apple reportedly already has signed a lease on a space right across Grand Army Plaza and Fifth Avenue from The Plaza, although there’s been no activity at the site in months.
