Apple has posted the locations and grand opening details for its new chain of mini retail stores. They feature back-lit photos on the walls, stainless steel walls, and a trim and clean fit intended to attract a younger, more hip demographic into the stores. Apple has also posted a press release on the stores, explaining about the product mix (half iPod-related, half Mac-related) and calling the store design “stunning.” As for the size, the press release notes, “The mini store is designed to precisely locate additional stores closer to customer to make it even more convenient to purchase products and get help.” An interesting feature: self-service check-out! There are two stations mounted on the wall that will allow customers to scan their purchase, and use their credit or debit card to complete the payment process. The grand openings will feature commemorative T-shirts to the first 500 people, instead of the traditional 1,000 people.
