I continue to receive news, if confusing, about Apple’s plans for mini-stores on university campuses. The plans are real, but the design of the stores is still cloudy in my crystal ball. So far, it seems the stores will be integrated into existing campus facilities, probably the bookstore or student union, and take up about 500 square feet. The final designs will probably include two display walls with shelving, at least one island counter, and other shelving for peripherals and accessories. The appearance will include some of Apple’s retail store elements, but it’s not clear if that includes stainless steel, the wall graphics, Corian or wood furniture, and bright lighting. I do know that Apple has created a mock up of the mini-store in Cupertino, just like they did with the bigger retail stores.
