Just after posting a quarterly loss, and just after I visited a Best Buy store to evaluate Apple’s product presentation, Gateway Inc. announced they’ll buy privately-held computer-maker eMachines Inc. for $266 million. News stories say that Gateway will sell its computers by phone and Web, and sell eMachines computers at retailers like Best Buy. However, the fate of Gateway’s retail stores apparently has not been decided, news reports say.
