Am I the only person to view the videos of the new G1 smartphone by Google and see how certain screens are moved around–finger flicks? Seems like Steve Jobs said they had patented the daylights out of the iPhone when it was first introduced. I’ve read one review that said that flicks aren’t used in the photo application. But I certainly saw someone quickly sliding their finger across the screen to move from one screen to another. It sure seemed like Apple’s technique. And, of course, much of the screen real estate mimics the iPhone–signal strength, network and other info in a small area at the top of the screen. Hey, I moved to an iPhone from a T-Mobile Sidekick. I loved that thing, because it could do e-mail. Otherwise, it was a dog, and not just because of the device. Part of the problem was the network–Deutsche Telekom, for heaven’s sake! All the signals must go through Germany, because there’s no coverage here! So, best of luck to the G1. It may make the iPhone look even better.
I noticed Nikon is advertising a point-and-shoot digital camera with a touch interface that lets users flick through photos in a similar way as the iPhone allows. It will be interesting to see how far-reaching Apple's copyrights extend and how strongly they defend them.
