Several Web sites have taken the numbers about the newly-announced
Meatpacking District (NYC) store, and
figured that it will be the largest store in Manhattan, "if not the world." Well, you have to do the
math on the 32,000 s.f. of space that Apple is leasing. At least 4,700 s.f. will be in the basement, and not part of the retail floor. There will also be an equal amount of space devoted to training rooms, upper-level stock rooms and other spaces. That means the actual retail store space will total around 24,000, making the MD store actually smaller than Fifth Avenue. No, it will
not be the Death Star of Apple retail.
