Canada Store Will Expand Into Adjacent Space

August 20, 2012

Visitors to the Carrefour Laval (Canada) shopping mall in the Montreal suburbs will eventually notice construction in the space next to the Apple store, as it’s outfitted to create an expanded store with 80 percent more space and a double-sized storefront. According to sources, the RW&CO store to the right of Apple will close or relocate, leaving behind an empty 4,884 square-foot space. The small, 25-foot wide Apple store will then move in September to a temporary location in the former Mexx space not far away. Workers will then outfit the original space for Apple, take down the dividing wall, and create a combined space with about 10,979 square-feet. Carrefour Laval opened in 2006 north of Montreal as the chain’s first French-speaking Apple store. Like almost all Apple stores, visitor traffic has increased over the years, crowding the six available Genius Bar stools, and now forcing Apple to expand the space. The expansion should take three to four months, sources say.

The current 6,096 s.f. Apple store (red) will move to a temp space during construction to incorporate the 4,885 s.f. space (yellow) vacated by the RW&CO. store. The final store will be about 10,979 s.f. store, large by any mall standard.
