Stores Will Close To Join HQ Steve Jobs Memorial

October 18, 2011

Apple’s retail store employees will join the headquarters team on Wednesday for a company-wide memorial for Steve Jobs, closing from 9 a.m. to noon (PDT). Jobs died October 5th, immediately sparking an outpouring of tributes by admirers at the company’s retail stores worldwide. Bouquets of flowers, Post-It Note messages and other creative artwork is still in place at most stores in honor of Jobs. Details of tomorrow’s memorial in Cupertino have not been made public, so it’s also not clear if store employees will watch live video of the memorial. Not all of the chain’s 357 stores are normally open during the hours of the memorial, including China, Hong Kong and Australia. There are also a handful of stores in Europe that close at 7 p.m., before the memorial will end.

On Wednesday, the Apple stores were closed for three hours so employees could watch live video of a celebration of Steve Jobs' life at the headquarters in Cupertino. The windows were blocked with white fabric and a sign noted the store would open "shortly."
