UK Store With Long History Is Opening Saturday

June 21, 2011

The five-year wait for an Apple store in Reading (UK) is nearly over, with today’s announcement of The Oracle grand opening this Saturday. Job listings first appeared for a Reading store in 2007, but disappeared within weeks with no explanation. There was no hiring or visible construction until last January, when job listings and a black construction barricade appeared on the upper level of the mall, about an hour west of London. The store’s official project number indicates its early planning—#176, when more recent stores are in the 400’s. Saturday’s grand opening is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

The Apple store will occupy the former spaces of two stores on the upper level.
