Suburban Los Angeles Store Revealed

February 22, 2011

Apple will push its Los Angeles region retail presence further north later this year, into the Santa Clarita valley’s Valencia Town Center shopping mall. The mall is along Interstate 5 about 35 miles north of LA, and about 20 miles from the nearest existing store in Northridge. As part of the Westfield group of malls, it underwent a $140 million renovation last year, resulting in 40 new open-air spaces. The exact location of the store within the mall isn’t known. Based on construction and hiring schedules, the store could open by mid-September.

Those living in the Santa Clarita Valley would find any reference to it being a suburb of Los Angeles very offensive, as would those in Woodside find being defined as a suburb of “Frisco”.

I’m not offended. But typically we go by, “you know where Magic Mountain is?”

Offended? Not in the least. I’ve lived here for over 20 years and I’ve never met a person who doesn’t think we’re a suburb of Los Angeles.

I think we would prefer being called a suburb of Los Angeles over Awesometown anyday.
