To kick off the first Apple store opening of 2009, Ian has started the waiting line for the Friendly Center (Greensboro, NC) grand opening, scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. There was scaffolding still in place when he arrived just after 6 p.m. (EST), and the temperatures are in the mid-30s, and expected to drop to around 19º. The storefront is of the typical stainless steel, back-lit logo and glass variety. The iPhone Savior Web site has photos and a video of the grand opening, and check photos on flickr by el frijole and talosman. At 6:18 p.m. Friday…

Ian must have been shivering while he took the picture!
It *is* friggin cold out here!
We’re up to 3 in line, and might be setting up a tent soon ;)
Ian – You may be nearing the record for the coldest grand opening camp-out. My personal record is about 30º.
Why did I know that Ian would have posted already? :)
all three of us deserve credit then ;)
its getting pretty frigid out here, but we’re well insulated!
The Greenboro News-Record is covering the waiting line with a story that remarked on the overnight camp-out in sub-zero temperatures! Congrats to Ian, Dan and Kevin at the head of the line!

I think the coldest opening was in Munich, Germany last year. I think it was about 25-26 degrees.
But have fun out there in Greensboro!;-)
