Huge Crowd Greets Germany’s First Apple Store

December 6, 2008

A huge crowd packed the plaza in front of the new Rosenstrasse (Munich) retail store Saturday morning to await the moment when the door swung open for the first time. The weather was cold, but there was no rain or snow to dampen the spirits of the crowd. There were reportedly 4,000 visitors to the store within the first four hours. Dennis Voss, a veteran of several other grand openings in Europe and the United States, started the overnight waiting line at 1:30 a.m. and was first through the doors when the store opened at 10 a.m. Check photos of the waiting line and the grand opening on the setteB.IT Web site, these flickr sets by smokeonit and Oifi74 and Isik, and this amazing panoramic QTVR of the storefront. Watch a YouTube video after the break, or surf this Vimeo video.

Yeah! It was great opening. I was there at 8.50 a.m. and just right to get a free T-shirt. The retail team was extremly friendly and applauded the whole day. They sounded really throatily at 6 p.m. ;)
A bit fun was the mactechnews.de team: As always the sparkly anounced their coverage, but entered one hour after it has opened. A bit late ;)
As the retail team said, they expected about 7.500 people but there seemed to be more. Televion was there and a lot of people from apple. They stuffed the crowd to get “better pictures”. One of the security people descript a main person of apple, who could be Phil Schiller.

yeah, the store had roughly 1000 people/h coming in, that amounts to 10000 the 1st day;-) opening hours were 10am to 8pm (10:00-20:00).

pretty good attendance;-)
