3G iPhone Seems A Certainty–Soon

June 1, 2008

A variety of sources have pinpointed Steve Jobs’ June 9th keynote speech at Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) as the introduction of the much-anticipated iPhone designed for third-generation (3G) cellular networks. Tipsters are telling various Web sites that WWDC will provide the 3G introduction, while production and transport sources say that deliveries of the 3G models have already arrived in the United States. AT&T sources say the company has restricted employee vacation in the weeks after June 9th, further fanning speculation. Now those with Apple store connections are making the same claim, that retail store employee time-off will be restricted from June 9th through the first week of July.

3G refers to the name of the wireless radio network the new phones will be on, not the generation (to the best of my knowledge there is still only one generation, but with a mid-life price reduction.

This allows for faster speeds and downloads and other performance upgrades… [IFO — Thanks. Re-written for clarity.]
