Is That A Foxwoods Reseller?

February 8, 2008

The Web site for the MGM Grand at Foxwoods (Conn.) development briefly posted a Web page about the future Apple reseller there, including a background photo that was actually the Regent Street (London) store’s Genius Bar. The text of the page never used the word “reseller,” but rather mimicked Apple’s description of its own stores, saying its was “the best place to buy, learn about and test drive new products,” and even mentioned an “Apple Retail Store Genius Bar.”  There was speculation back in July, 2007 when a Foxwoods Web page mentioned an “Apple store” coming to the casino/hotel complex. However, management later confirmed it was a reseller store. Within 24 hours of being posted here, this latest Apple-looking Web page disappeared, but it lives on thanks to google’s cache.

It WAS there, but now they’ve removed mention to stores other than Bally and Dunhill. Maybe they weren’t supposed to be using information or images from Apple yet.

The MGM has a very nice Web site, but useless for any real information. (We will have a great pool, here is a picture of a flower.) The Apple store was listed but has since been removed. It’s the usual policy of not announcing anything before they are ready to announce it. Apple seems to looking for exposure more than anything else now. Instead of straight suburban malls they are going for high traffic tourist-oriented shopping centers. The newly planned Caesar’s Palace location makes sense as it has the highest sales per square foot in the nation. Foxwoods is the World’s largest casino so there should be plenty of traffic. They are pouring the cement for the floors in the new store in Waikiki. The Apple store was listed but was removed from most of the signs. They did miss a couple. Their website lists “Apple Reseller Store” which would make me think that its an independent reseller and not an actual Apple Store.

You know, when I went back to read, I noticed” Apple Reseller” too. Thought it was just my way of reading it…

Either way, we should know by May.
