Press Conference at London Store

September 13, 2007

Apple has scheduled a press conference at the Regent Street store next Tuesday, September 18th at 10 a.m., but did not disclose the topic. The e-mail invitation is only headlined, “Mum is no longer the word.” Speculation is that the event will announce the availability of the iPhone in Europe. The AppleInsider Web site reports some modification to the store’s theater area in advance of the press conference, and special store hours for the day: 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Surely it has to be the disclosure of the UK carrier for the iPhone. Appleinsider via MacWorld UK speculates that it could be about video availability in the UK iTunes store but that just doesn’t fit with the invitation. We say ‘mum’s the word’ when we’re keeping silent about something, or not saying anything. Surely the opposite of that is to get people talking. Getting people talking=calling/phoning.

But then, that’s speculation on my part too.
